Peel, core, and cut apples into slices or chunks. Place slices or chunks into a pan with just enough water to slightly cover apples.

Boil or steam the apples until tender. Be sure to check on the water level and stir. Apples may be mashed with a potato masher to achieve a smooth applesauce consistency.

Reserve any leftover water to use for thinning out the apple puree. Use a blender or other kitchen appliance to puree the apple mixture, adding the water as desired.
